When installing Under-tile heating elements on existing concrete floors, particularly if the concrete floor has no insulation beneath, it is strongly recommended that an insulating material be placed on the floor surface before fitting the heating elements. Devi Heating supplies a board specifically designed for this purpose - FBoard6
This material is 6mm in thickness and consists of a layer of compressed polystyrene sandwiched between two reinforced fibre cement films.
The board is easily cut (with a Stanley Knife for example) and is glued directly to the floor using a typical tile adhesive.
This material can be used on top of wooden floors as long as the wood floor is stable.
If the floor surface finish is to be vinyl or carpet, then an appropriate Floor Leveling compound or screed MUST be placed over the elements and be of sufficient thickness to "protect" the Fboard from high point loads which may cause "collapse" as the polystyrene has limited compression strength.
