Huttons Kiwi Pig Farm, Te Pirata
The purpose of this particular project was to provide under-floor heating to the farrowing (birthing) and weaning sheds of a 10,000 pig farm.
The farrowing shed provides a warm floor to avoid piglets seeking warmth from the sow and risk of crushing and ensures the piglets stay warm, particularly during their first few days. The weaning shed ensures that energy is used for growth and not warmth. Pigs eat anything so the controls and air sensors had to be completely hidden. IP44 sensors were used as the sheds are hosed down frequently. Piglest thrive on warm floors and the lack of draughts means less stress, risk of disease and higher survival rate.
It's important to monitor and control the floor temperature to ensure it's not too hot or too cold for the pigs.
Deviflex Heating Cables, Type DSIG-17 and a Devireg330 were used for this heating project.
